For Release June 9, 1994 PHILIPS NORTH AMERICA ANNOUNCES NEW 20-INCH TOUCH MONITOR/RECEIVER UTILIZING THE INTELLITOUCH(R) TOUCHSCREEN OVERLAY FROM ELO TOUCHSYSTEMS, INC. Oak Ridge, Tenn. Philips North America announces a new 20-inch touch monitor/receiver for its CD-i players utilizing the IntelliTouch(R) touchscreen overlay from Elo TouchSystems, Inc. "This new touch monitor offers state-of-the-art touch technology coupled with our PA3520C monitor/receiver to offer the easiest to install and use, highest quality system available," says Robert A. Harris, Vice President of Marketing for Philips Professional Products. "The touchscreen plugs into the front or rear I/O port for simple installation. The systems requires no calibration and no special set-up or touch drivers in the application. The Green Book CD-i standard made provisions for an absolute pointing device such as a touchscreen. Unfortunately up until now there wasn't a touchscreen/monitor fully integrated and agency approved which could deliver this," says Harris. "Now we have one." In addition to its ease of use, the IntelliTouch touchscreen has several unique features. It's constructed from a clear glass panel for maximum image clarity and durability. The video is as clear as the original and the touch system is unaffected by minor scratches so it's excellent for public kiosk applications. "The system looks great, is really fast and responsive and gives us the resolution we need," says Harris. "Additionally, we were very concerned about the quality of the product and the company behind it. We chose Elo TouchSystems because of their dedication to quality, service and the unique product characteristics which make this a very attractive product for our customers." CD-i is an excellent delivery platform for retail point-of-information displays, training and product presentations. The touchscreen allows the user to interact with the content in a very direct way to maximize the impact. CD-i is being used in a variety of applications to provide customers with an affordable, interactive delivery system for a host of applications. As an example, car shoppers can get information on the models and options available at their own pace. They can also see the various color combinations available from which to choose. The monitor has full agency approvals including FCC, UL, CSA and is warranted by Philips. It is available immediately through Philips or any of their authorized professional resellers. The suggested list price for the complete touchscreen PA3520TS monitor is $1,595.
